Google has announced that five changes to mobile search will be implemented soon. Here are the specifics.
Google Core & Product Review Updates Finish The Rollout

At Google’s Search On conference today, the company announced five significant changes to how people search on mobile.
Starting today, the Google app for iOS will include shortcuts to various actions other than typing in a traditional search query.
Google is upgrading the mobile search bar with features that will help users find more relevant results in the coming months.
Google’s mobile search results are about to become more visual, with a greater emphasis on images and video.
Here’s more information on the updates that will be available today and soon.
1. Google Search Shortcuts
Aside from typing a text query, there are numerous ways to search Google.
You can find products by uploading screenshots, translating text with Google Lens, or even humming into the microphone to find songs.
All advanced methods of searching Google will now be more visible on the Google app for iOS, with tappable shortcuts.
Here’s an example of what they look like:

2. Results In The Search Bar
Google is making it easier to find things in mobile search by displaying links to results in the search bar. Before you submit your query, Google will begin populating results as you type.

3. Enhanced Query Refinements

4. Google Web Stories
Google is making mobile search more visual by integrating Google Web Stories more deeply.
According to a Google announcement:
“So we’re also making it easier to explore a subject by highlighting the most relevant and helpful information, including content from creators on the open web. For topics like cities, you may see visual stories and short videos from people who have visited, tips on how to explore the city, things to do, how to get there and other important aspects you might want to know about as you plan your travels.”
Here’s an example of how the new layout will appear.

The way content is displayed resembles iOS widgets.
You can open the story in full-screen mode by tapping on it.

5. Combining Text, Images, & Video
Google is transforming mobile search results pages into a never-ending stream of discovery.
Google will no longer require you to switch between the Web, Images, and Video tabs because they will all be displayed on the front page.

This combination of text, images, and video on the same page is described by Google as a “reimagining” of how it delivers search results:
“We’re also reimagining the way we display results to better reflect the ways people explore topics. You’ll see the most relevant content, from a variety of sources, no matter what format the information comes in — whether that’s text, images or video.”
You’ll also have the option to keep scrolling to look into related queries.
The example below shows the bottom of a search page where you can select “More search results” to get more results for your query. You can also scroll vertically to investigate the query “historic sites in Oaxaca.”
