How to Install Grammarly for Microsoft Word & Outlook

This means you only need to install it once, and the software will automatically install Grammarly add-ins compatible with your environment (browser, Microsoft Office).

How to Install Grammarly for Microsoft Word (regular version)

To install Grammarly for Microsoft Word on your Mac, please follow these instructions:

• Step 1: Open Microsoft Word and select a blank document.

• Step 2: Go to the “Insert” tab on the toolbar, find and click on the “My add-ins” option.

• Step 3: Click the “Store” option and type “Grammarly” in the search bar.

• Step 4: The search results display “Grammarly for Microsoft Word.” Click on the “Add” button to add Grammarly to Word. Click “Continue” to proceed with the installation.

• Step 5: Go back to Microsoft Word and see the Grammarly section on the toolbar. Click on the “Got it” button.
• Step 6: On the right side of the toolbar, you will find the “Open Grammarly” icon. Click on it to open the login window.

• Step 7: If you already have an account, click “Log in to Grammarly” to sign in with your Grammarly Pro account. If you don’t have an account, click the “Sign up” link below.
• Step 8: After logging in, you can start composing your English text.

How to use Grammarly in Microsoft Word on Mac & Windows

  • Email: for writing emails.
  • Casual: for everyday conversation or storytelling.
  • Creative: for creative writing.
• In the Tone section, you can select the tone of your writing:
  • Neutral: a neutral tone without too much emotion.
  • Confident: a confident tone.
  • Joyful: a humorous tone.
  • Optimistic: a positive tone.
  • Friendly: a friendly tone.
  • Urgent: an urgent and compelling tone.
  • Analytical: an analytical tone.
  • Respectful: a formal tone that shows respect to the reader.
• In the Intent section, you can choose the genre or the purpose of your writing:
  • Inform: to provide information.
  • Describe: to describe something.
  • Convince: to persuade someone.
  • Tell a story: to narrate a story.

After adjusting the settings, you can start composing your English text, and Grammarly will help you check for any errors. If you want to make corrections, click on the suggested word by Grammarly.

After editing the entire document, Grammarly will provide you with an assessment of your piece’s performance regarding Correctness, Clarity, Engagement, Delivery, and the corresponding score.

Also, have you noticed the sawtooth gear icon in the bottom right corner of the Grammarly window? That’s where you can customize the dialect of English you want to use, such as British English, American English, Canadian English, or Australian English.

System requirements for using the Grammarly add-in for Microsoft Word on Mac and Windows

To use Grammarly for Microsoft Word on a Mac, you need the following:

1. Operating System: macOS Catalina (10.15), macOS Mojave (10.14), or macOS High Sierra (10.13).
2. The version of Microsoft Office: 16 or later.

• To check the current macOS version, click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and select “About This Mac”.
• To check the current version of Microsoft Office, open Microsoft Word, select the Word menu, and click “About Microsoft Word”.

How to remove the Grammarly add-in from Microsoft Word

To uninstall Grammarly from Microsoft Word on a Mac, open Microsoft Word. Then, in the Insert menu, click on “My Add-ins”.

A new window will appear. Click on the three-dot icon next to Grammarly for Microsoft Word.

Guide to installing Grammarly for Microsoft 365 (or Microsoft Word Online)

• Update January 2022: During the process of supporting Grammarly on Microsoft Word, it was found that installing the Grammarly Add-in through “Get Add-ins” or the Store in the Microsoft Word menu cannot be done as described (when searching for Grammarly through the Store, no results are found, while the ProwritingAid or Linguix Add-ins can be easily found).
• This may be an issue with Grammarly (as of January 23, 2022).

To install Grammarly for Microsoft 365 (or Microsoft Word Online), follow these steps (guaranteed 100% success):

1. Visit the website and download the Grammarly Add-in using the following link: https://www.grammarly.com/office-addin
2. Click the “Get the add-in” button to download it to your computer.

3. Proceed with the installation as usual (it is recommended to close Microsoft 365 during the installation).
4. Close all Microsoft 365 programs, then reopen the program, and you will see the Grammarly menu in Microsoft 365.
