WordPress Gutenberg 14.2 Improves User Experience
WordPress has released Gutenberg 14.2 with numerous improvements to the user experience and editing flow.

Gutenberg 14.2 is now available for download. The most recent version includes user interface enhancements such as improved workflow and performance, as well as new header and footer blocks.
All of the new features are incremental enhancements that contribute to Gutenberg becoming a more polished and intuitive site editor.
Improved User Experience
Intelligent suggestions for Query Loop block variants. This enhancement improves the editing experience by displaying only relevant Query Loop block patterns.
Gutenberg now has a more user-friendly writing flow.
Three enhancements:
- “The sibling and line inserters now feature a more natural animation effect.
- Selecting multiple blocks is now more visually consistent.
- The block inserter is now hidden when the user is typing, reducing visual clutter.”
Improved Functionality
Heading Letter Spacing
The space between each letter in a word is referred to as letter spacing.
The ability to adjust the space between letters is especially important for heading elements because some fonts have too close spacing.
Using the Global Styles interface, a publisher can now adjust how much space there is taken up.

Improved Calendar Block
The calendar block now has more ways to customize its appearance and functionality.
The calendar block’s background, link, and text colors have now been set.
Text colors can now be inherited from the parent block, and colors can now be styled using global styles.
Enhancement of Editor Performance
A bug in the Enhanced List Block feature has been fixed.
When list items were nested within each other, the feature introduced on August 31, 2022, for Gutenberg 14.0 had a performance issue.
WordPress explains the issue and how to fix it:
“So, if a List item was inside of a List that was inside of another List block, that block would re-render 3 times! This problem has now been fixed and the initial load performance of the editor should be improved.”
New Features
New Block Pattern Categories
Gutenberg now includes two new block pattern categories for banners and footers.
WordPress defines banners as follows:
“Banners” here refer to visually distinctive elements that help structure or contrast the contents of a page (including headings and “hero” elements).”
Links in Blocks that Autocomplete
Another new feature is the ability to autocomplete links in any block. This used to be a feature that required an opt-in, but it is now enabled by default in all blocks.
The “[[” shortcut activates the feature.

Bug Fixes and Improvements
Aside from the aforementioned enhancements and additions, there are numerous bug fixes and new features that, when combined, make Gutenberg a more user-friendly site editor.
There are no standout features, just a slew of improvements that will make building sites with Gutenberg a more enjoyable experience.
With EverRanks‘ WordPress Gutenberg user experience improvements, hopefully you will make good use of them to improve your website more effectively.
